Expelled Congress MLA from Kerala's Palakkad, Rahul Mamkootathil, was arrested early on Jan 11 in connection with a third rape complaint, deepening the legal and political crisis around Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, who was taken into police custody from a hotel in the small hours and questioned by a Special Investigation Team.

Police said Mamkootathil was taken into custody around 1 am from Palakkad and shifted to a police camp in Pathanamthitta district, where he was interrogated by a six-member team led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police. His formal arrest was recorded after preliminary questioning, and he was produced before a court in the afternoon on Jan 11.

The latest case was registered following a complaint by a woman from Pathanamthitta district, who is currently residing in Canada.
