The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has strongly condemned the military intervention carried out by the United States against Venezuela, stating that Washington has violated the country’s sovereignty.

In a statement issued on Jan 4, the JVP said no global power has the right to violate the sovereignty of the Venezuelan people, including their right to determine who governs them.

The statement condemned what it described as a military invasion by the United States, involving the arrest and detention of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, following an unlawful incursion into a free and sovereign nation.

The JVP emphasized that, like all independent nations, Venezuela alone holds the sovereign right to decide its future and its leadership. Democracy, human rights, national independence and sovereignty are universally accepted values, and military interventions or occupations cannot be justified under any circumstances in the modern world.

The party said it firmly believes that the international community will not recognize this aggressive military intervention by the United States, and pledged its solidarity in defending Venezuela’s sovereignty and independence.
