ITAK Did Not Oppose the Budget Due to Confidence in the Government: Minister Bimal
22-Nov-2025.
ITAK abstained from voting against the budget because they believed that dialogue with the government and the National People’s Power could lead to solutions, said Minister Bimal Rathnayake.
He told the media:
Opposition parties must develop new strategies to criticize the government. Do not merely redirect our own criticisms back at us. A “new weapon” means better plans than ours.
We will work with full dedication for national equality. Last November, space was given for remembrance events, and the same applies in November 2025.
People have the right to remember their dead—but that right does not mean remembering the LTTE.
Even when our party (JVP) was in power, we did not establish public memorials for our own fallen members. It is enough that such memorials live in our hearts, he said.
