Is the Government Also Attempting to Conceal Justice? – MP Gavindran Kodeeswaran

ITAK MP Gavindran Kodeeswaran questioned whether the current government, like previous administrations, is obstructing administrative powers and denying justice to the people of the Kalmunai North area.

Speaking during the committee-stage debate on allocations for the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, and the Ministry of Industries on 19 November 2025, he said:

For 30 years, the people of Kalmunai North have been denied their rightful administrative authority. Successive governments have imposed administrative restrictions and injustices on this community.

What solution is this government going to provide? In 1993, cabinet approval was granted to upgrade Kalmunai North to divisional secretariat status. Yet today, the powers due to that secretariat are being withheld, despite the division comprising 29 Grama Niladhari divisions.

On what basis, and for what purpose, can a cabinet-approved divisional secretariat be merged with Kalmunai South or any other institution? Where is the justice in this? If such a merger is planned, the relevant cabinet paper must first be revoked. A secretary or district secretary may make changes within the law, but not to the extent of erasing the division itself.

Past governments acted deliberately to block administrative powers and facilitate land misappropriation. Is this government doing the same? You promised to appoint a committee to study the issue, yet it has not happened. Why? Are you also following the path of previous governments?

We appealed to this government for justice, believing it would correct past wrongs. You must not hide justice as previous governments did.
