Indian man jailed in Singapore for molesting recruiter

A 46-year-old Indian national and Singapore permanent resident was sentenced on September 22 to four years in jail and six strokes of the cane after being convicted of molesting a woman inside a nursing room at Changi City Point mall in Singapore.

Ankit Sharma was found guilty of one charge of aggravated outrage of modesty for assaulting a 31-year-old technology specialist recruiter on March 1, 2023.

Sharma faced between two and 10 years of imprisonment and caning for the offence. The prosecution sought at least four years in prison and six strokes of the cane.

The court accepted the prosecution’s sentencing call, rejecting the defence’s request for a lighter term of three to three-and-a-half years with fewer cane strokes.
