Indian Aid Must Reach People Transparently – Jaishankar Tells Sajith Premadasa

Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar emphasized that assistance provided by India for Sri Lanka’s recovery must reach the people transparently. 

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa assured maximum cooperation from the opposition.

The discussion took place during a meeting at India House in Colombo on Dec 23.

Mr. Premadasa thanked India for ‘Operation Sagar Bandhu’ and expressed gratitude for the USD 450 million assistance package, including USD 100 million in grants and USD 350 million in concessional loans.

He stressed the need for a proper disaster management mechanism, drawing lessons from past tragedies.
