India and Sri Lanka Share Joint Duty to Safeguard Peace in the Indian Ocean

Speaking at the Indian Council of World Affairs in New Delhi, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa highlighted the joint responsibility of India and Sri Lanka to maintain the Indian Ocean as a zone of peace and cooperation.

He praised India’s evolving global diplomatic role and reaffirmed deep civilizational and democratic ties between the two countries.

He said global economic restructuring can be achieved by aligning trade and security priorities.

He highlighted India’s rise as a civilizational and technological power, including successes in its digital democracy and manufacturing.

Sri Lanka wishes to align with India’s industrial and technological initiatives, especially in electric vehicles and delivery services, he said.

He expressed confidence in India’s ability to secure a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.
