Those who hid under beds during the war are now stripping former heads of state of their privileges. If you can, declare Prabhakaran a terrorist. If Prabhakaran carried out bomb attacks, I apologize for that, said Independent Group 17 MP for Jaffna District, Ramanathan Archuna.

He made these remarks in Parliament on September 10 during the debate on the Presidential Privileges (Abolition) Bill.

Further, he said: I am a Tamil. If I speak in Sinhala in this assembly, you will be pleased. Raise your hands and declare Prabhakaran a terrorist — if you can. Let us count. Not one of you raised your hands.

I can raise my hand and say Rohana Wijeweera was not a terrorist. Tamil people voted for you seeing Prabhakaran as a Sinhala equivalent. They did not know Ilankumaran or Chandrasekaran. They supported you only because you opposed state injustices in 1988.

Today, you sit in Parliament in trousers thanks only to the former heads of state. During the war, you hid under beds, and the army protected you. Yet today, you file cases against them and even ridicule Namal Rajapaksa.

You are pushing the very soldiers who protected you into difficulty, trying to arrest Namal Rajapaksa. If Prabhakaran carried out bomb attacks, and if that was wrong, I apologize for it. I will go to Geneva and speak about our people’s rights, but unlike you, I will not betray those who saved me by digging graves for them, he declared.
