Government Will Uncover the Truth Behind Easter Sunday Attacks, Says Minister Nishantha Abeysinghe

Minister of Science and Information Technology Nishantha Abeysinghe has reaffirmed the Government's commitment to fulfilling its pledge to uncover the truth behind the Easter Sunday bomb attacks and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
Speaking to the media after an event in Colombo, the Minister said the Government remains determined to honour the promise made to the people by revealing the full truth behind the attacks. He added that several important facts are expected to emerge through ongoing judicial proceedings.
Rejecting allegations made by Opposition members that judicial independence is under threat, Abeysinghe described such claims as baseless and politically motivated. He maintained that the Opposition was attempting to shield itself by making false accusations.
The Minister pointed out that the country's court system has now undergone digital transformation. Court proceedings, which were previously conducted entirely through paper-based records, have been digitised, bringing significant benefits to the public.
He noted that more than 1.1 million cases are currently pending before the courts and said that digitisation would facilitate electronic case management and accelerate judicial proceedings. According to him, the Government's decision to extend the tenure of judges has been taken solely to expedite the disposal of pending cases.
"There is no contradiction in this policy. Opposition members are raising false allegations because they fear that their corruption cases will be heard more quickly, leading to imprisonment," he said.
Referring once again to the Easter Sunday attacks, Abeysinghe said the Government remains committed to establishing the truth and ensuring that the guilty are punished. He observed that although two individuals have already been sentenced by the courts, the process is far from over, and further revelations are expected as judicial proceedings continue.
