Government Rejects Actions Against Military Officers – Minister Vijitha Herath

Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath stated that Sri Lanka rejects sanctions imposed on military officials, describing them as contrary to international law and UN security principles.
Responding in Parliament to questions regarding UK sanctions on four Sri Lankan military leaders, he said the government had previously expressed concern that such measures could undermine reconciliation efforts.
He emphasized that Sri Lanka is pursuing accountability and reconciliation through domestic mechanisms and will continue to act according to international law.
