No promises made regarding the Easter Sunday attacks have yet been fulfilled by the government, charged SJB MP Ajith P. Perera. He accused the government of attempting to avoid debate on the no-confidence motion submitted against the Deputy Minister of Defence.

Speaking at a press conference in Colombo on September 1, Perera pointed out that during the attacks, the current Deputy Minister of Defence was serving as the Eastern Commander, and all opposition parties together filed the no-confidence motion against him.

However, the Speaker has yet to make an announcement on the matter, despite the Attorney General having confirmed that allocating time for debate is not against parliamentary standing orders. He stressed that the public has the right to know the truth about the investigations.

Perera accused the government of shielding those responsible and expressed suspicion over the Speaker’s silence. He highlighted that some of the suicide bombers were directly linked to Ibrahim’s family, who had financial resources, raising questions about why the government is blocking the debate if it claims to be unafraid of it.
