G. M. R. T. Abeysinghe Appointed Secretary to the Ministry of Power

G. M. R. T. Abeysinghe has been appointed as Secretary to the Ministry of Power by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

The appointment letter was handed over to him on April 17 at the Presidential Secretariat by Presidential Secretary Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.

Abeysinghe, a Senior Additional Secretary to the President for Finance and Economic Affairs, is a senior officer of the Sri Lanka Planning Service.

He has extensive experience in national planning, public financial management, macroeconomic forecasting, development financing, fiscal analysis, tax policy, and higher education planning. He previously served as Head of the Finance and Economic Affairs Division at the Presidential Secretariat, providing strategic policy direction on economic governance and national development priorities.

He received his early education at Lunawa Roman Catholic School and Moratuwa Uyana Primary School, completed secondary education at B/Keppetipola Maha Vidyalaya and Bandarawela St. Joseph’s College.

He holds a BSc (Hons) in Physics from the University of Ruhuna, a Master’s in Atmospheric Physics from the University of Colombo, and a Master’s in Economics from the Australian National University. He also holds a postgraduate qualification in Development Studies from a Japanese institution for advanced development education.

During his public service career, he has served in the National Planning Department, National Budget Department, Inland Revenue Department, and the Ministry of Education.

He has also served as Assistant Lecturer in Physics at the University of Ruhuna, Visiting Lecturer and Senior Consultant at the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration, and Visiting Lecturer in Project Management at the University of Colombo’s Institute of Human Resource Advancement.
