Former Personal Secretary of Chamara Sampath Dasanayake Further Remanded

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has ordered that the former personal secretary of former Minister Chamara Sampath Dasanayake, who was arrested over corruption allegations, be further remanded until 9 October.

The case was taken up before Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanka S. Bodaragama on 25 September 2026.

Appearing before court, officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption submitted that the suspect had taken steps to facilitate the export of phosphate by Sri Lanka Phosphate Limited to only three specified companies without following the proper procedures, including arranging for the necessary export licences and providing the facilities required for the export.

The investigating officers further stated that investigations had revealed that the suspect had solicited and received Rs. 8.1 million as a bribe in return for assisting and cooperating with the said companies in obtaining the approvals necessary for the export of phosphate, and had deposited the money into his bank account.

CIABOC also informed court yesterday that a further seven suspects are expected to be arrested in connection with the incident.

Having considered the submissions made by the CIABOC officers and the lawyers appearing for the suspect, Colombo Magistrate Asanka S. Bodaragama ordered that the suspect be further remanded until 9 October.
