The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) has reported a rise in financial scams conducted via social media and YouTube channels, falsely promising foreign employment opportunities.

According to the Bureau’s statement, these fraudulent operations are carried out without any authorization from the SLBFE.

Investigations revealed that most advertisements are fake, and legal action will be taken against those involved.

In one case, a suspect was arrested by the Bureau’s Special Investigation Division for defrauding Rs. 7.6 million from five individuals, promising factory jobs in Singapore.

The suspect, who had studied in Singapore for three years, claimed he could recruit workers for a company there and even signed contracts before a lawyer in Gampaha.

However, he failed to deliver the promised jobs. Complaints were lodged with the Bureau, and he was arrested at his residence in Uswetakeiyawa, Wattala.
