Entire Conspiracy Behind Easter Sunday Attacks Must Be Investigated, Says Ranjith Madduma Bandara

United People's Power (SJB) General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara has stated that while officials who failed to prevent the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks have now been punished, those who planned, financed and masterminded the attacks must also be brought before the law.
Addressing a media conference in Colombo, he said the commissions of inquiry appointed to investigate the attacks had indicated that a candidate linked to the JVP had financially supported the attack. While accepting the court's judgment, he questioned why individuals such as Ibrahim, who allegedly financed the attacks, and others who benefited from them have not yet faced comprehensive legal action.
He observed that although the Catholic community suffered the greatest loss and the Muslim community faced widespread suspicion in the aftermath, the SJB too was politically affected, having lost substantial electoral support in both the 2019 and 2024 presidential elections because national security became the dominant campaign issue.
Madduma Bandara noted that although investigations commenced during the Good Governance administration, the Ministry of Law and Order remained under the control of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party following the 52-day constitutional crisis. Therefore, he argued, neither the United National Party nor the Samagi Jana Balawegaya should be held responsible.
He added that while police officers have been punished for failing to prevent the attacks, those who actually carried them out have yet to face complete justice.
