08-Feb-2026.
Health and Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa stated that education reforms based on five key pillars are being planned and will be expanded to other grades within the next three years.
Speaking at the Ratnapura district event of the National Movement for Education Reform, he said reforms for Grades 1 and 6 will be implemented this year, followed by reforms for Grades 2 and 7 next year.
Reforms for Grades 3 and 8 are scheduled for 2028, and for Grades 4 and 9 in 2029. Accordingly, full curriculum restructuring up to Grade 9 will be completed over the coming years.
Education experts are currently involved in developing the required curricula, and reforms for Grade 1 have already begun. However, curriculum changes for Grade 6 have been postponed until next year. The primary objective of these reforms is to produce citizens capable of facing the challenges of the 21st century.
