Do not form misconceptions about government: Deputy Minister Anil Jayantha
28-Apr-2026.
Deputy Minister Anil Jayantha has urged the public not to form misconceptions about the government, stating that it is working to maintain fiscal discipline in line with its election promises.
He said misinformation circulating on social media is misleading the public and warned against being influenced by false narratives.
Speaking on public finance matters on April 27, he clarified that the alleged disappearance of USD 2.5 million from the Treasury has already been explained by the government and is currently under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Department and other agencies. Findings will be disclosed upon completion of investigations.
He further stated that during the Ditwah disaster, Parliament approved a Rs. 500 billion supplementary allocation for relief efforts, and a Rebuilding Sri Lanka Fund was established in December last year to support reconstruction and fundraising for affected communities.
As of 24 April, Rs. 9,583 million has been deposited into the fund from contributions across 49 countries. He stressed that the funds are securely maintained under the Treasury Secretary’s account.
He also clarified that expenditure from disaster relief allocations has not yet been fully utilised, and future spending reports will be presented transparently to the public.
A Presidential Task Force headed by the Prime Minister has been established, along with eight sub-committees overseeing different sectors, including financial management.
He urged the public not to be misled by false social media narratives and reaffirmed that fiscal discipline is being strictly maintained.
