Delhi riots accused Sharjeel Imam gets 10-day bail to attend brother's wedding

A Delhi court has granted 10-day interim bail to student activist Sharjeel Imam, an accused in the 2020 northeast Delhi riots conspiracy case, to attend his brother’s wedding and take care of his ailing mother.

The development comes months after the Supreme Court in January refused to grant bail to Imam and co-accused Umar Khalid in the 2020 Delhi riots case.

Sharjeel Imam is among several accused booked in the larger conspiracy case linked to the communal violence that erupted in northeast Delhi in February 2020. The riots had left 53 people dead and over 700 injured.
