Decision to lease 29 Trincomalee oil tanks: Petroleum Corporation

A decision has been taken to lease 29 abandoned and poorly maintained oil tanks at Trincomalee to private investors on a long-term basis, Ceylon Petroleum Corporation Managing Director Mayura Neththikumar said.

He made the statement while speaking to the media on the redevelopment of the Trincomalee oil tank farm. 

He said steps had been taken to rehabilitate the oil tanks owned by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation at the Trincomalee oil tank farm.

Of the 61 tanks owned by Petroleum Terminal Limited, 29 had been left abandoned without proper maintenance, he said.

A decision had therefore been taken to lease these 29 tanks to private investors on a long-term basis, and applications had already been called for the purpose. The process would be completed shortly, he said.

Two tanks had been completely refurbished under the supervision of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, while work on three other tanks was currently under way. Those projects would also be completed shortly.

He said necessary measures had been taken to make maximum use of the Trincomalee oil tanks, with cooperation secured at both the national and international levels.
