Decision to Extend the Tenure of Director General of Power Sector Reform Secretariat Revoked

Minister of Power and Energy Kumar Jayakodi has ordered the immediate cancellation of the decision made by the Secretary to the Ministry of Power and Energy to extend the tenure of H. P. Niroshan, Director General of the Power Sector Reform Secretariat, by one year.

On October 15, Secretary Udayanga Hemapala had sent a letter to Niroshan, informing him that his tenure had been extended until June 26 next year, and that this extension had received ministerial approval.

However, Minister Kumar Jayakodi, in a letter dated October 22, instructed the Secretary to revoke the extension with immediate effect, stating that he had not granted any such approval.

The Minister further noted that seeking approval for such an extension without authorization was an improper move.

Accordingly, the Minister formally directed the Secretary to cancel all actions related to the said appointment, including the letter issued on October 15, with immediate effect.
