Criminals and corrupt should be in jail, not in power: PM Modi
23-Aug-2025.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 22 launched a sharp attack on West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress for their objection to the new legislation brought to remove leaders arrested on serious charges holding top offices, saying such ministers should be in jail and not in power.
He appealed to the people of the state to bring about 'poribortan (change)' by electing the BJP in next year's elections.
"If a PM, CM or minister is jailed, there is no legal provision to dismiss them. And look how shameless people are that they run governments from inside the jail. A TMC minister is still in jail in the teacher recruitment scam. Yet the minister was not willing to relinquish his post," PM Modi said in an indirect reference to Bengal Correctional Services Minister, Chandranath Sinha, who is in jail in connection with the school recruitment scam.
