Case Against MP Chamara Sampath Fixed for Hearing on November 3

The Colombo Magistrate's Court has ordered that the case filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption against Parliamentarian Chamara Sampath Dassanayake be taken up again on November 3.

The order was issued when the case was called before the Colombo Chief Magistrate on June 19.

Officials of the Bribery Commission informed the court that investigations into the allegations against the MP were continuing. Taking this into consideration, the Magistrate directed the Commission to submit a detailed progress report on the next hearing date.

Dassanayake has been accused of causing a loss exceeding Rs. 17.3 million to the government by allegedly withdrawing fixed deposits belonging to the Uva Provincial Council before maturity during his tenure as Chief Minister of the province.
