Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith has filed an intervention petition before the Court of Appeal seeking permission to oppose and have dismissed the writ petition filed by former Director of State Intelligence Service Suresh Sallay, who is challenging his arrest and detention under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).

In his petition, the Cardinal has requested the Court to permit him to intervene in the proceedings and present arguments in support of dismissing Sallay's writ application.

Sallay has named the Inspector General of Police, the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the CID, Fr. Rohan Silva and several others as respondents in the writ petition currently under consideration before the Court of Appeal. The matter is scheduled to be taken up again on a future date.

Against this backdrop, eight intervention petitions have already been filed in support of Sallay's application. Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith's petition, filed earlier this week, is the first seeking the dismissal of the writ petition.

With the latest filing, a total of nine intervention petitions have been submitted in connection with the case, both supporting and opposing the application filed by Suresh Sallay.
