Cannot use past service to cover up allegations: Fr. Cyril Gamini
11-Jun-2026.
Catholic Church spokesperson Father Cyril Gamini has stated that the arrest of former intelligence chief Suresh Sale is based on evidence emerging from investigations, and that his past service to the country cannot be used to dismiss current allegations.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Archbishop’s House in Colombo, he said he rejected a request by Sale to settle a defamation case and insisted that he would prove his statements in court.
He emphasized that ongoing investigations into the Easter Sunday attacks must continue without political interference, adding that those attempting to obstruct justice through protests or claims of mistreatment should allow legal processes to proceed.
He also stated that decisions regarding alleged torture claims must be determined by the courts.
