Cabinet Approves Wind Power Projects in Mullikkulam

The Cabinet approved establishing two 50 MW wind power plants in the Mannar–Mullikkulam area.

The plan is part of the government’s strategy to meet 70% of national power needs through renewable energy sources by 2030. 

On Feb 10, Cabinet approved seeking proposals from private developers.

Seven proposals were received. After evaluation, the Cabinet-approved negotiation committee recommended awarding the projects to the Consortium of Vidullanka PLC & David Pieris Motor Company (Lanka) Ltd, and WindForce PLC.
