20-Nov-2025.
Budgetary allocations for the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government were passed by a majority of 94 votes.
A total of 103 votes were cast in favour and 9 against. Accordingly, the allocations were approved.
The vote was taken at the end of the committee-stage debate on the 2026 Appropriation Bill allocations for the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, and the Ministry of Industries.
ITAK MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam called for the division based on objections to the government’s failure to conduct Provincial Council elections and its handling of the Kalmunai North Divisional Secretariat issue.
In the vote that followed, government members supported the allocations, while ITAK MPs and TNA MPs Selvam Adaikkalanathan and Archuna Ramanathan voted against. The main opposition and other opposition parties abstained.
