Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna National Organiser and Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa stated that he is awaiting a summons from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to provide a statement regarding Pillayan, adding that he too intends to raise several questions with investigators.

He made these remarks to the media following a religious observance held in Kurunegala on 27 May.

Speaking further, Rajapaksa alleged that the Government is functioning with the intention of preventing any political party from returning to power in the future. He said his party would continue its political activities without intimidation and stressed that the Government need not fear such efforts.

He also urged the Government to focus on fulfilling the promises made to the people rather than targeting political opponents. Addressing the National People’s Power (NPP), he challenged the ruling party to hold elections instead of repeatedly referring to its public mandate.

Commenting further on the Pillayan issue, Rajapaksa reiterated that he would appear before the CID once summoned and would seek answers from investigators. He questioned how an individual against whom an arrest warrant has reportedly been issued could be invited to a diplomatic mission for discussions.

He also alleged that certain groups are deliberately attempting to tarnish Buddhism. Referring to the Atamasthana Thera controversy, Rajapaksa stated that he did not wish to politicise the matter and emphasised that any resolution should be sought through the courts.
