Avoid making false accusations; Minister Damitha Pathmabandu
12-Nov-2025.
“We welcome good proposals presented by the opposition regarding the budget submitted by the President. Opposition MPs must avoid raising false accusations for narrow political motives,” said Minister of Environment Damitha Pathmabandu.
He stated this in Parliament on November 10 during the second day of the debate on the Second Reading of the 2026 Budget.
He added:
“Opposition MPs who speak in this debate only put forward criticisms and allegations, claiming that we are merely implementing the previous government’s policy framework. Even comments by a few so-called progressive opposition members are disappointing.
This budget has been presented in a simple and inclusive manner. Wages of estate workers have been increased. Those who ignored estate workers in the past now raise contradictory accusations regarding this increase.
The budget was prepared amidst economic difficulties. Funds have been allocated for rural development, urban infrastructure, and various other sectors. Yet the opposition focuses only on accusations, ignoring the positive aspects, which is regrettable.
We will accept constructive ideas from the opposition. They should refrain from presenting false charges driven by political agendas. Sustainable economic recovery is the main objective of this budget. If funds had been allocated without limits as the opposition demands, they would then question why such funds were allocated amid economic hardship. We will implement the budget’s proposals effectively.”
