Arrest of Ranil Wickremesinghe Driven by Political Revenge: Manoharan Ganesan

Manoharan Ganesan, leader of the Tamil Progressive Alliance and Member of Parliament, stated that opposition parties would not unite if actions were taken concerning the alleged bond scam and mortgage fraud against former President Ranil Wickremesinghe. He emphasized that Ranil Wickremesinghe’s arrest is purely for political revenge.

He made these remarks during a press meeting of opposition parties held in Colombo on August 24.

He further said:
It is a matter of serious concern that the government is using state power to target opposition members, including former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, in acts of revenge. The National People’s Power government came to power promising to take action on allegations such as the bond scam and mortgage fraud against Ranil Wickremesinghe. If these promises were implemented, opposition parties would not 
unite.

Several of those who filed complaints against Ranil Wickremesinghe were present at this meeting. The discussions concerning the presidency and personal travel have already begun and can be debated extensively in Parliament. The government must end its short-sighted political vengeance.
