Anura should not follow Gota’s policy – MP Kavinda
26-Dec-2025.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake should not follow former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s policy of prioritizing the military, stated United People’s Power Gampaha District MP Kavinda Jayawardena.
Appointing a military officer as Auditor General disregards the public administrative service, he said.
Speaking on the current political situation, he noted that the President is attempting to politicize the independent National Audit Office. The post of Auditor General has been vacant since April.
A recommendation made by the President to appoint a university friend to the position was rejected by the Constitutional Council.
All recommendations made so far by the President for the post have been rejected, including the most recent nomination of a military officer. The President’s promise that appointments to senior state positions would be based on qualifications and seniority has proven false.
He stressed that either a senior official from the Audit Department or a qualified officer from the public administrative service should be appointed as Auditor General.
