The Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Bill was passed in Parliament on October 8 with amendments and without a vote.

The amendment seeks to address practical difficulties encountered in implementing the Anti-Corruption Act, No. 9 of 2023; inconsistencies between the Sinhala and English versions of the legislation; problems arising in the investigation and prosecution of corruption offences; administrative issues affecting the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC); and the need to streamline the submission of asset and liability declarations through a centralised electronic system.

The amendments are also intended to strengthen Sri Lanka’s legal and institutional framework for combating corruption and ensure that the Anti-Corruption Act is implemented effectively, transparently and accountably.
