A 23-year-old Hindu man was burnt to death inside a garage in Bangladesh's Narsingdi district, triggering allegations of a premeditated killing and fresh concerns over the safety of minorities in the country.

The victim, identified as Chanchal Chandra Bhoumik, had been working at the garage for several years. He was originally from Lakshmipur village in Cumilla district and had been living in Narsingdi for work.

The incident took place near the Mosque Market area adjacent to the Narsingdi Police Lines. According to eyewitnesses and local sources, the attack occurred late on night of January 23 while Chanchal was sleeping inside the garage.

Assailants allegedly poured petrol on the shop's shutter from outside and set it on fire, causing the flames to spread rapidly inside.
