All long-distance transport services suspended
30-Nov-2025.
Transport services have come to a complete halt due to the damage caused by the severe weather. Train services to the hill country have been entirely suspended, and all long-distance trains operating from Colombo Fort Station have been cancelled until further notice.
Considering essential needs, operations have resumed on the Kelani Valley Line, the Main Line up to Mirigama, and coastal services covering Aluthgama and Galle from last evening.
All long-distance bus services from Colombo to the north and east have also been suspended. Private Bus Owners’ Association Chairman Gemunu Wijeratne stated that short-distance services will operate only in areas free from flood and landslide risk.
Additional General Manager of Railways, Chandrasena Bandara, explained that the decision was taken due to severe landslides along the tracks and widespread treefall, posing risks to passenger safety.
Train services to the hill country remain fully suspended due to landslide threats, with tracks seriously damaged. Restoration work can only begin once weather conditions stabilise, and the department is unable to specify a timeline for resuming services.
