4,500 Complaints Regarding Bribery received

The Bribery or Corruption Investigation Commission reported that over 4,500 complaints have been received so far this year regarding incidents of bribery. 

From January 1 to August 31, a total of 4,626 complaints were lodged with the commission.

During this period, 85 raids were conducted, and 58 individuals were arrested. Most of those arrested were police officers, totaling 19. Among them were eight police sergeants, five constables, and three sub-inspectors.

Other arrests included nine individuals from the Ministry of Justice and associated institutions, three village officers, two public health inspectors, and two officials from the Sri Lanka Transport Board. Additionally, 30 more individuals were arrested in connection with investigations, including politicians, senior officials, and doctors.

From January 1 to August 31, the commission filed 61 cases in courts: 36 for bribery, 15 for corruption, and 10 for illicitly acquired property, involving 75 individuals. The commission has completed 44 of these cases, convicting 29 individuals, with 276 cases still pending.
