The Police Media Division announced that 3,553 suspects were arrested across the country during the past week as part of a special anti-narcotics operation conducted under the directive of Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya.

 

The operation, launched on 13 April 2025, aims to crack down on criminal activity and drug trafficking. Between October 17 and October 23, police carried out 3,564 raids nationwide.During this period, police arrested:

• 1,224 suspects with heroin,

• 1,214 suspects with crystal methamphetamine (“ice”),

• 43 suspects with hashish, and

• 951 suspects with cannabis.

 

Additionally, 132 individuals were arrested for possession of cannabis plants, illegal pills, and contraband cigarettes.

 

Authorities also seized 1.6 kilograms of heroin, 3.565 kilograms of ice, 11 kilograms of cannabis, 6.377 kilograms of hashish, and 1,468 narcotic tablets.
