212 helicopter crashed in Wennappuwa

Five crew members aboard the Air Force Bell 212 helicopter that crashed in Wennappuwa have been rescued and admitted to Marawila Base Hospital.

The helicopter crashed while attempting an emergency landing. Two Air Force personnel involved in relief operations were among those rescued.

The helicopter was engaged in disaster-relief operations when it crashed between Lunuwila and Wennappuwa, police said.
