At a time when campus hiring has slowed and packages across top engineering colleges are being closely watched, the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad has quietly rewritten its own placement record.

A 21-year-old computer science student from the institute has secured a Rs 2.5 crore annual package, the highest ever offered to an IITH graduate since the campus was set up in 2008.

The offer has gone to Edward Nathan Varghese, a final-year BTech student in computer science engineering, who will join global trading firm Optiver as a software engineer.

Based out of the Netherlands, the role will see Varghese start full-time work from July this year. What makes the offer even more interesting is that it came through a pre-placement offer after a summer internship, rather than a long list of campus interviews.
