2026 Budget to focus on development

The 2026 Budget will be presented with development as its central objective and will include relief measures benefiting the entire nation, Cabinet Spokesman Minister Nalinda Jayatissa announced. He also confirmed that no tax increases are planned.
Speaking at the government’s press briefing on November 4, Jayatissa said the Budget will be presented to Parliament by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in his capacity as Finance Minister on Friday, 7 November 2025.
He added that the President would clarify during his Budget speech how relief measures and development initiatives will be implemented across all sectors and regions.
The economy has now stabilized, and all sectors are showing growth trends, he said. The government aims to ensure that income generated from production and exports will effectively reach the people.
