19 Women Facing Death Penalty in Sri Lanka

A total of 19 women are currently facing the death penalty in Sri Lanka, according to Prison Media Spokesman Jagath Weerasinghe.

He further stated that 24 women are currently serving life sentences.

There are 225 convicted female prisoners and 1,304 female detainees in remand custody.

Together, they form part of the 1,529 women inmates held across 10 prisons in Sri Lanka, Weerasinghe added.
