‘Panadura Nilanga’ remanded until September 3

Colombo Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama ordered that Nilanga Sampath Silva, alias ‘Panadura Nilanga’, who had been detained and questioned by the Criminal Investigation Department under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, be further remanded until September 3.

The suspect was produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court under heavy security by officers of the Criminal Investigation Department. 

Investigating officers told the court that charges had been filed against the suspect under the Prevention of Terrorism Act in connection with the alleged illegal possession of firearms.

The suspect, who was arrested in Indonesia, was brought back to Sri Lanka in August 2025.

He was subsequently investigated under a detention order. As the period of detention had expired, officers of the Criminal Investigation Department requested the court to remand him.

After considering the evidence presented before the court, the Magistrate ordered that the suspect be further remanded until September 3.
