China’s Amber Adventure Company, the investor behind Sri Lanka’s first cable car project at Ambuluwawa, has officially announced its withdrawal from the project, according to the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka.

Following continuous reports on social media warning of potential landslide risks at the project site due to Cyclone Dithwa, it has been reported that the Ministry of Environment decided to halt construction of the Ambuluwawa Cable Car Project.

The project was implemented under both Chinese and American investments. Due to repeated construction disruptions, the investors reportedly faced significant difficulties.

The Chinese company stated that all necessary approvals and clearances for the project had been obtained in accordance with BOI policies and procedures, and that persistent interference had resulted in unexpected losses.

The company’s Director, Yuan Yuping, noted in a letter to the BOI that legal action would be initiated at an international arbitration tribunal to recover the losses incurred.
