The Colombo High Court has ordered that the case filed against former Minister Kumar Jayakody in connection with an alleged fraud committed during his tenure at the Lanka Fertilizer Company be taken up on 3 November for further examination of evidence.
The order was made by High Court Judge Rasantha Godawela when the case was taken up on 5 October 2026.
When the case was called, the complainants’ evidence was recorded under the direction of officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption. The witnesses subsequently responded to questions during cross-examination by President’s Counsel appearing for the defence. The case was thereafter adjourned to 3 November for further proceedings.
The case was filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption against former Minister Kumar Jayakody over allegations that, while serving as the Procurement Manager of the Lanka Fertilizer Company in 2014, he caused financial loss to the Government by awarding a contract for carpeting at the company premises in a manner favourable to a private company.
