Indian Government Can Take Forward Efforts in Anojan Sivarasa Case: Mano Ganesan

The Indian Government can take forward its efforts in the case of Anojan Sivarasa only after the Sri Lankan Government formally approaches and makes a request to the Government of Saudi Arabia, Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Santosh Jha has informed representatives of the Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA), led by Parliamentarian Mano Ganesan.

Following an appeal against the sentence imposed on Sri Lankan national Sivarasa Anojan by a Saudi Arabian court, who was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment and fined earlier last month over an allegation of blasphemy, the death penalty has now reportedly been imposed on him.

Against this backdrop, representatives of the Tamil Progressive Alliance met Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha on 23 September 2026 and sought the direct intervention of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Anojan case.

Mano Ganesan told the Indian High Commissioner that, while supporting the efforts of the Sri Lankan Government, the Tamil Progressive Alliance also wished to pursue every possible avenue to seek a solution to the Anojan case on behalf of all Sri Lankans.

During the meeting, a written memorandum addressed to the Indian Prime Minister was also handed over to the High Commissioner.
