The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved establishing a High Court bench in Ladakh to improve access to justice for residents of remote areas. Currently, the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has seats only in Srinagar and Jammu, causing long travel and delays.

The new bench aims to reduce these challenges and support Ladakh's development and constitutional safeguards since its 2019 formation as a separate Union Territory, addressing judicial infrastructure gaps and pending case backlogs.
