Firefighter from Trail found not guilty of assaulting of homeless man

A firefighter from Trail, B.C., who was facing charges after allegedly assaulting a man who was homeless has been found not guilty.

The verdict, published on April 24, releases Gregory Ferraby from any wrongdoing related to the incident.

Ferraby was first charged in November 2023 for an alleged incident in April of that year.

The charges for which he was found not guilty include assault causing bodily harm and uttering threats.

Ferraby, who worked for the Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue, was charged alongside two colleagues. Richard Morris and Wesley Parsons were each charged with one count of assault, although both of their charges were stayed in October 2025.

At the time the charges were laid, Trail RCMP said the three men knew the victim and the alleged attack likely stemmed from a previous altercation.
