UN Human Rights Chief Assures Continued Support to Sri Lanka

United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk has assured Sri Lanka’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Sumith Dissanayake, that continued support will be extended to Sri Lanka through the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Türk also reaffirmed that assistance would continue through UN mechanisms. The assurance was given during a meeting held in Geneva on April 13, when Dissanayake met the High Commissioner for discussions.
During the meeting, Ambassador Dissanayake briefed Türk on Sri Lanka’s recent developments and held detailed discussions on several matters of mutual interest.
He also reiterated Sri Lanka’s continued cooperation and constructive engagement with the UN Human Rights Council and the Office of the High Commissioner.
Commending Sri Lanka’s cooperation, High Commissioner Türk reaffirmed his commitment to provide ongoing support through his office.
