Emphasising Sri Lanka’s commitment to fulfilling the obligations of the IMF’s Extended Fund Facility programme, the Speaker highlighted the importance of maintaining strong fiscal and monetary policies.

The Speaker further briefed IMF officials on steps taken to enact key legislation such as the Public Finance Management Act and the Anti-Corruption Act, stating that such laws are vital to ensure fiscal discipline and good governance.

In response, Evan Papageorgiou noted that Sri Lanka’s performance under the EFF programme has been very strong and reiterated the need to continue sustainable reforms.

Special attention was also paid during the discussion to the possible impact on Sri Lanka’s economy arising from ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
