27-Mar-2026.
A Russian delegation, including Russia’s Deputy Minister of Energy Roman Marshavin, has expressed agreement to supply refined fuel to Sri Lanka.
The Russian Deputy Minister of Energy and the delegation, who arrived in the country on a two-day official visit, held discussions on March 26 with Minister of Energy Kumara Jayakody, Minister of Industries Anil Jayantha, and representatives of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.
Special attention was paid to strengthening bilateral cooperation in the energy sector between Sri Lanka and Russia. Discussions also focused on expanding long-term cooperation between Sri Lanka and the Russian Federation, particularly in relation to fuel supply, energy security, and new opportunities for long-term partnerships.
Accordingly, the Russian delegation, including Deputy Minister Roman Marshavin, has agreed to supply refined fuel to Sri Lanka.
In recent weeks, fuel distribution in the country was affected due to delays in the arrival of fuel vessels, caused by the escalation of conflict in Middle Eastern countries.
As a solution to the fuel crisis, the Government initiated diplomatic-level discussions to purchase fuel from Russia on a Government-to-Government basis. In line with this initiative, Russia’s Deputy Minister of Energy arrived in Sri Lanka on a two-day official visit.
