Pakistan’s 86th National Day was celebrated in Sri Lanka with grandeur by the Pakistani community and the Pakistan High Commission.

The event, held on March 23, commemorated the Lahore Resolution of March 23, 1940, which ultimately led to the creation of Pakistan as an independent state on August 14, 1947.

Acting High Commissioner Ms Suneira Latif hoisted the national flag as the national anthem was played.

Messages from the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan were read, paying tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

In her address, the Acting High Commissioner highlighted the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, built on mutual trust and respect, spanning trade, defence, science, culture and education.
