Man, 35, dead after fatal crash in southern Manitoba

A 35-year-old man is dead after the truck he was driving collided with another vehicle and went into the ditch on Thursday, RCMP say.

Pembina Valley RCMP got a report of the two-vehicle crash in the rural municipality of Stanley southwest of Winnipeg around 11:30 a.m. that day, Mounties said in a news release on August 28.

The crash happened at an uncontrolled four-way intersection at Road 17 N. and Road 19 W., when a truck with a flatbed trailer that was going east collided with a truck carrying a garbage trailer that was going north. Both trucks went into the northeast ditch, the news release said. 

Mounties, local firefighters and paramedics responded to the crash. A 35-year-old man from Plum Coulee, Man., who was driving the truck with the flatbed trailer, died at the scene, the release said. 

The other driver, a 42-year-old man from the rural municipality of Stanley, was taken to hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. RCMP said they are investigating.
